Frequently Asked Questions

How do you tell if a relationship is exponential?

An exponential relationship has a constant ratio between consecutive outputs. In a table, check if y-values multiply by the same factor as x increases by 1. Linear relationships have constant differences instead.

What is the difference between growth and decay?

In f(x) = a·b^x: if b > 1, it's exponential growth (values increase). If 0 < b < 1, it's exponential decay (values decrease). Growth factor 1.05 = 5% increase. Decay factor 0.95 = 5% decrease.
